'Beautiful', she thought. 'Absolutely stunning and gorgeous', she'd continue. She expected nothing less from a gym that called itself a grass and fairy specialist. She, for one, chose to approach because it made her feel comfortable and at peace. Thus, her stroll through the maze wasn't an issue for her; it was a nice walk through the nature and the leaves, while being led by her own bug pokemon. In her short journey, she took the time to enjoy the greenery and appreciate the flora that grew around the gym, itself. [break][break]

She arrives at what appeared to be the end of the maze, and pauses before walking through and into the actual room that held the battlefield. 'Just for a moment" she tells herself while taking in a deep breath. [break][break]

In, and out. Phew. [break][break]

"Excuse me?" Her soft voice chirps up as she lets herself into the field. The usual, soft smile was stretched across her lips. [break][break]

"Pardon the intrusion. Is the gym leader available to battle?~"

cait was comfortably situated upon her stony arena, a large cushion of stuffed and soft green fabric placed beneath her. she appeared to be lazing about, having preemptively taken her place upon the field as she awaited her next challenger. the girl was perfectly content and at ease in that moment, the smile she wore genuine as she sat up and ran nimble fingers through her own curly mane.

"a pleasure to make your acquaintance," she drawled. "i imagine you're here for a badge?"

at her side was her lombre, the pokemon stoic and idle as they maintained their usual position at their mistress's side.

She thought as her lips curled into a smile. Ayame walks into the room with little hesitation, then putting her hands in her lap to offer a slight bow (purely out of instinct and habit). Honour and respect had a strong presence growing up, hence these mannerisms have taken a large portion of her behaviour - especially before battling. [break][break]

Her empty, amethyst eyes give the lombre a smile and acknowledged wave, now approaching closer to the woman herself. "Indeed, if you aren't busy~" she chimes. Once again she glances to the lombre, and tilts her head slightly. "And a good afternoon to your lombre~"

lombre ♀: swift swim - hydro pump, nature power, water sport, rain dance, ice beam

lombre acknowledged the woman with a glance, though she appeared preoccupied, her gaze shifted toward the glass ceiling. It was raining outside, the sound of the tempest drumming against the translucent surface a soothing one.

"lombre?"

cait reached and settled a gentle hand upon the grass-type's back.

"you don't mind, do you?"

the grass-type scratched her chin for a moment before giving an indifferent shrug.

"if you're here for your badge," cait said, her volume raised as she focused upon ayame. "then it will be yours. in exchange for beating me in a battle, of course."

her lombre stepped forward, prepared to follow through with her mistress's will.

"this will be a one on one," she said. "the last pokemon standing shall determine the victor. you've my permission to initiate the battle."

Being told that, how could she not take the offer? [break][break]

Giving a quick bow, she walks to her side of the field to toss out a pokemon. Her vikavolt was hovering above the ground thanks to levitate (and her own wings) while glaring at the lombre. "Potchi?" she starts, then waving her hand slightly. [break][break]

"Start with electroweb."[break][break]

She instructs. The bug pokemon immediately conjured up a sparking, yellow orb of condensed electricity. Upon release, it expanded into a net/web with the intention to electrify and slow down whatever in its path.

"a vikavolt?"

cait eyed the pokemon, familiar with the breed of insect. she possessed one of her very own, though it was very rarely used for battle. the electrified webbing that had shot forth from the beast temporarily overwhelmed her pokemon, the stringy material stubbornly clinging onto lombre.

"nice opener," she praised.

if memory served - electroweb could potentially slow a pokemon.

'right,' she thought, quickly formulating a plan as she considered her options.

"rain dance, lombre."

despite their discomfort, the dual-type proceeded to preform a jig, ignoring the remnants of the electrically-infused web that clung onto her limbs as she danced and rocked her body to an unheard rhythm. clouds manifested high above their heads as she moved, a light drizzle descending upon whomever was present on the field; trainers included.

A rain dance was not a problem. In fact, she figured she could use the puddles of water forming on the field to her advantage. [break][break]

Although a quick look and judgement of the puddles proved that it wouldn't be as effective. Not right now. Instead, she waves her hand with the same, calm smile on her lips. "Intensify the storm with thunderbolt." She says to the bug pokemon. The vikavolt heeds her command, coating their body in bright, crackling sparks before sending the volt of electricity into the clouds made by the lombre. [break][break]

The clouds begin to rumble upon contact with the electricity, and it prompts a storm to pour ever more violently with faint thunder to begin roaring. The electricity was beginning to charge up in the clouds. [break][break]

Though her hair had gone drenched by the rain, that doesn't stop her from pulling out a smaller, compact umbrella from her messenger bag. She opens it up in spite of the storm, hoping to keep herself from getting further drenched. [break][break]

She pulls out another from her bag, holding it out to the gym leader. "Would you like to use this?"

cait grins at her challenger's kindness before she offers the shake of her head. despite the intensity of the rain, she'd prefer to suffer through it alongside her companion.

"no thank you."

her poor cushion was utterly soaked, so she'd remove herself from its soggy surface and stand upon her bare feet. a hand moved to brush aside her bangs as they began to stick onto her forehead, the young woman cocking her head to the side as she mulled over a potential strategy.

"hydro pump, lombre," she ordered.

cait decided that she'd take advantage of the full force of the storm, allowing its presence to effectively strength the water attacks that her lombre was currently equipped with.

She promptly returns the pocket umbrella back into her messenger bag. If the gym leader preferred to revel in the rain herself, who was she to stop her? [break][break]

The rain was pouring; it was difficult to hear the other trainer and she was slightly worried that her pokemon might not hear her, should she fly off the ground too far away. The vikavolt stays hovering above the ground, which was preferred, anyways. The rain pounded down against her body, but she pressed through it. "Charge and endure it." She orders. Though the bug pokemon wasn't too keen on taking the attack, her body began to glow a bright yellow within the darkness of the clouds and the droplets of the rain.[break][break]

Electricity sparked around the pokemon's body, up until the pillar of water slammed into it. The bug pokemon grunts at the power of the water attack, powered by the rain. Thankful to it's typing and the trainer's precaution, it didn't sustain as much damage as it should have. [break][break]

But following up the hit, Ayame's voice can be heard through the rain. "Now electrocute with Thunderbolt!" the pokemon's eyes glare and sucks up the rest of the impact, more-so to push itself under the pressure to charge up its body. The charge from earlier caused the sparks to flicker violently, and the hydropump was used as a medium to conduct the powered-up thunderbolt through - and straight towards the one who initiated it.

the thunderbolt was dreadfully potent, the energy coarsing throughout the hydro pump like a rapid infection, allowing for the energized attack to strike the lombre directly. and with a quiet grunt the pokemon seized before teetering unsteadily upon her feet, her face betraying her agony as she reeled.

"steady, girl," cait urged, gently.

she appeared to struggle, remnants of the electric-infused attack threatening to remain, transform and paralyze her fully. but she had faced electric-types attacks before, her body instinctively forcing its own thin muscles to relax instead of growing painfully rigid.

"focus - breathe - use nature power."

her bipedal companion latched onto her voice in a metaphorical sense, ignoring the pain that rendered her slow and achy as she called upon the powers of nature. despite the artificial forest that surrounded them on all sides; the powers that be recognized it as such - artificial.

"lom!"

a tri-attack emerged in moments, manifesting before the grass-type as she raised her hands and spread her pointed claws wide apart. her eyes widen before the elemental attack rushed forward, orbs of yellow, blue and red that radiated with power promising to administer a moderate amount of damage.

nature's power turned tri-attack wasn't something to scoff at. [break][break]

she idly watches as the three elemental orbs make their way to her vikavolt; threatening to smash into the bug and electric pokemon. this time, rather than taking the hit, she calls out to the vikavolt abruptly. "electroweb." she commands. the vikavolt once again charges up the web, then releasing the electrified net towards the three orbs in an attempt to catch them. though it would have been able to catch the yellow and blue orbs respectively, the red orb seared through the web and soared towards the bug pokemon. [break][break]

"x-scissor." she says. the pokemon primed the pincer-like mouth it had, then began to charge through the red orb straight on. the aftermath of the attack was enough to cause the vikavolt to stumble, slightly, in their flight, but that didn't stop it from charging into to land the bug attack on the pokemon.

lombre's attack had been successful - but only by a certain degree. damage had been administered in the form of tri attack's fire element, but it wasn't enough to completely send the bug-type reeling.

"dodge!"

the vikavolt had been slowed just enough to allow for the dual-type to execute the move, her action sloppy but efficient enough to avoid the oncoming strike in its entirety. a few scant inches separated them as the vikavolt shot past, a nervous look tugging at lombre's usually stoic features as her gaze followed those pincers.

"aim for the wings! ice beam!"

while the electric-type's wings were unfolded, the grass-type gym leader urged her companion to act. the lombre obeyed without missing a beat, facing the pokemon and releasing a chilled beam of power toward its translucent appendages.

Though soft, she clicks her tongue as she watches the grass and water pokemon effectively dodge the grip of the pincers. nevertheless, she maintained her smile and cool expression as she watches the bug pokemon dash straight past the lombre. in response, though slightly irritated, the pokemon began to hover over the ground and make a curve around in an attempt to use it again. [break][break]

what it didn't see was an oncoming ice beam. under the pouring rain, ayame was able to hear for the call and responded by shouting "acrobatics". the vikavolt perks up and immediately made a twist and sharp turn in the air, narrowly escaping what would have been a dangerous ice beam. it continues to zip around in the air a few times, only to charge down just as quickly while leaving an after image of where it once hovered.
